New York, NY (January 22, 2019) – Thomas W. Ross, President of the Volcker Alliance, released the following statement on the longest partial government shutdown in US history:
The federal government needs to be open for business to deliver on the promises made to the American people through policy passed into law by our democratic government. We must distinguish between policy debates and policy implementation. No policy debate should deprive the American people of effective implementation of existing policies and the essential services our government provides. The Volcker Alliance calls for government to reopen and for the agreed-upon and important tasks delegated to dedicated public servants throughout the federal government to never again be held hostage to unsettled policy debates.
