Researchers Use "Truth and Integrity" Findings in Distinguished Academic Paper
A team of researchers at Rutgers Business School, Montclair State University and the Volcker Alliance used data and findings from the Alliance’s Truth and Integrity in State Budgeting project to enrich a major academic paper, "Application of Data Analytics: Visualization and Cluster Analysis of Governmental Data," which will be presented at the Journal of Information Systems Conference 2020 to be held in Orlando, Florida, next year. The use of the Alliance’s exclusive data on the budgetary practices of all fifty US states shows that the work is having an impact outside of fiscal policy circles. The paper, and a related work, "Big Data Based Government Economic Monitoring (GEM) and Targeted Action," presented earlier this year at the Brookings Institution’s annual Municipal Finance Conference, demonstrate how state and local data can be better visualized to increase their utility to policymakers and analysts. William Glasgall, the Alliance’s senior vice president and director of state and local initiatives, is a co-author of both papers.
