On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, the Volcker Alliance and the Partnership for Public Service hosted a public service town hall discussion on Renewing America’s Civil Service. The town hall commemorated the 40th anniversary of the 1978 Civil Service Reform Act—which was the last time Congress passed major reforms to the federal civil service system.

The Volcker Alliance and the Partnership for Public Service led a constructive discussion about what is needed to modernize the outdated federal personnel system and help build a high-performing government that can effectively address the significant challenges facing our country.

The town hall took place during Public Service Recognition Week (May 6-12, 2018), an annual celebration of the women and men who serve our nation as federal, state and local government employees. This event was open to all government employees and the general public.
