A Note from the Summit Student Lead

Greetings fellow NextGen Service Corps students!

I'm Naomi Garcia-Hector, Program Intern for the Volcker Alliance’s Next Generation Service Corps initiative. On behalf of the Volcker Alliance, I am excited to welcome you to the inaugural Next Gen Service Summer Summit!

A little about me—in addition to working with the NextGen Service team (the small but mighty crew working behind the scenes on all these cool opportunities for us NextGen Service students), I’m also a graduate of Georgia State University’s NextGen Service program, the Social Action Alliance. Because of that, I’m familiar with how inspiring it is to be a part of an energetic, ever-growing community of university students passionate about public service and changemaking, from things like local government endeavors to fighting climate change. Yet, I also know that at times the national network feels large and that opportunities to connect with NextGen Service peers from across the country (especially in person) are cherished. That’s why the NextGen Service team is so pumped to pull off our first Summer Summit, hosted at Montclair State University, where one of our main goals is facilitating cross-network student connections. We hope you’re feeling as energized as we are coming into this experience. Without spoiling any of the awesome activities we have planned, know that it’s going to be an action-packed and rewarding few days!

I’m looking forward to meeting you all soon, making new friends, diving deeper into public service, and growing as a leader—I hope you are too!
