VOLCKER ALLIANCE HIRES INAUGURAL EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT SARA MOGULESCU

NEW YORK, NY (September 4, 2018) – The Volcker Alliance announced today that Sara Mogulescu has joined the nonprofit organization as Executive Vice President. Ms. Mogulescu comes to the Volcker Alliance from Bennett Midland, a civic sector consulting firm at which she was a partner. In this new position, Ms. Mogulescu will oversee the organization’s key initiatives to advance effective management of government to achieve results that matter to citizens.

“We are pleased to welcome Sara Mogulescu to the Volcker Alliance given her nationally recognized expertise in program design, nonprofit management strategy, and innovation at all levels of government,” said Thomas W. Ross, president of the Volcker Alliance. “Her outstanding experience and accomplishments within the civic sector attest to her capabilities as a leader and will be a great asset to our organization.”

During her tenure at Bennett Midland, Ms. Mogulescu collaborated with leaders of public agencies and community organizations to design and implement complex interdisciplinary initiatives. She led the team that supported the design and roll-out of What Works Cities, a national initiative from Bloomberg Philanthropies that has helped 100 mid-sized American cities accelerate their use of data and evidence to engage citizens, make government more effective, and improve people’s lives. She was a principal architect of the Safety and Justice Challenge, a $100 million investment by the MacArthur Foundation in jail reform. She also partnered with the Reinvestment Fund and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to design and deliver Invest Health, a national grant program helping 50 mid-sized cities plan community development projects with the aim of improving health outcomes in distressed neighborhoods.

“I am excited to be coming onboard as the new Executive Vice President of the Volcker Alliance, and to work with a growing team to derive maximum impact from the Alliance's work,” said Sara Mogulescu. “The Alliance is one of the leading nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations in the nation focused on improving the efficacy of governmental organizations at all levels and engaging our most thoughtful and accomplished citizens in service to the public good.”

Previously, Ms. Mogulescu served as the founding Director of the Center on Youth Justice at the Vera Institute of Justice, where she developed and managed a varied portfolio of initiatives. Before joining Vera, she was an associate at Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello PC, a New York law firm, where she represented clients in criminal matters.

Ms. Mogulescu holds a Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government from Wesleyan University.
