The Memoir of Paul A. Volcker
Released in 2018, Keeping At It, co-authored by Christine Harper, encompasses the decades-long career of our founder Paul A. Volcker. From two terms as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (1979-1987) to heading private, nonpartisan Commissions on the Public Service in 1987 and 2003, the memoir provides a timeline of Volcker’s life in public service.
“Told with wit, humor, and down-to-earth erudition, the narrative of Volcker’s career illuminates the changes that have taken place in American life, government, and the economy since World War II. He vibrantly illustrates the crises he managed alongside the world’s leading politicians, central bankers, and financiers. Yet he first found his model for competent and ethical governance in his father, the town manager of Teaneck, NJ, who instilled Volcker’s dedication to absolute integrity and his “three verities” of stable prices, sound finance, and good government.” (Hachette Book Group)
“We face a huge challenge in this country to restore a sense of public purpose and of trust in government. It will require critically needed reforms in our political processes and leaders who can restore and preserve a consensus upon which our great democracy can depend.”
