Maggie Mello joined the Volcker Alliance in January 2016 and serves as the senior director of public service education. She develops and executes the organization’s strategy and programs to support current and aspiring public servants by strengthening public service education. Maggie manages a portfolio of initiatives, including the Deans Summit, a forum for innovation and collaboration among deans of schools of public service. She builds partnerships with senior university leaders and partners at government agencies and other nonprofit and private sector organizations to promote innovation in public service education. In 2020, Maggie launched the Next Generation Service Corps (NextGen Service), working directly with a network of universities around the country to create new programs to prepare college students for careers in public service.
Previously, Maggie was an associate at MDRC, a nonpartisan social policy research organization, where she was responsible for managing a large portfolio of national research projects and evaluations focused on maternal and child health and early education policy for the Department of Health and Human Services. During her nearly 8-year tenure, Maggie recruited social service providers to randomized control trials and provided technical assistance to program staff. Additionally, she was project manager for several large-scale evaluations overseeing complex project financials and contracts, supervising staff and subcontractors, and developing proposals for new projects.
Prior to joining MDRC, Maggie managed the day-to-day operations of the Rackets Bureau of the New York County District Attorney's Office as the bureau administrator. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science from Barnard College, Columbia University and holds a master of public policy from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.
