Through the Service to Service initiative, a partnership between the Volcker Alliance and We the Veterans and Military Families, schools of public service are connecting veterans and military families with public service education pathways and propel them into stable and impactful careers in public leadership.

Mission
The veteran community, estimated to include over 17 million Americans, is an intuitive and promising demographic to channel into public service leadership. They bring diversity, proven commitment to service, and incredibly high levels of public trust—approximately 70% of Americans have confidence in veterans to “do what’s right” for America.
Service to Service channels this potential into action by attracting veterans and military family members to graduate programs in public service and facilitating placement in state and local government roles. By connecting veterans and military family members to opportunities to serve again through public service, we can leverage the veteran community's widespread public trust to shore up confidence in government and democratic institutions.
Student Recruitment
Schools of public service identify relevant master’s degree offerings, leverage veteran-serving programs and networks, develop recruiting strategies and materials that resonate with military-connected students, and enroll cohorts of Service to Service Fellows.
Student Experience
Schools offer wraparound programming to encourage retention and degree attainment. Cross-campus convenings foster community-building, networking, and professional development.
Community of Practice
Program staff from participating campuses collaborate to share and elevate best practices in military-connected student engagement.
Job Placement
The Volcker Alliance and partner schools work with state and local agencies to place graduates in high-need roles. While government employment isn't required, the program emphasizes these opportunities.
